To educate children grades five through eight about all aspects of musical theater
while inspiring creativity and confidence.
In the summer of 1996, as incoming high school sophomores, Kelsay Ludwig and Lisa Minken, with the help and guidance of Miriam Carson, decided to form a summer theater program for kids in Marysville. While there were opportunities to perform during the school year, a local summer program didn't exist. Kelsay and Lisa wanted to be able for kids to enjoy theater in their own hometown. Thus, the Marysville Summer Theater Workshop (STW) was born.
This organization is unique in the fact that all aspects of the production—including direction, choreography, music, set design, set construction, stage crew, marketing, publicity, administration, sponsorship and fundraising—are managed by the high school leadership team. The Board of Directors acts only as a sounding board, leaving all creative and administrative decisions to the students.
The first STW had 10 participants, today the program has 50+ students in grades 5-8. Throughout this five week program, the leadership team of 10 high school students work to encourage proper technique, confidence, and team building.
